wrap dress and givenchy boots

As much as I love dresses, I’m really not a dress kind of girl. I will pick jeans every day for the rest of my life over any other clothing garment but when the sun is out and it’s still cool enough that you don’t have to strip down for survival, there’s nothing more flattering than a wrap dress. There’s a reason DVF has been making them for 40 years. Light, comfortable and easy to wear, every woman should have at least one wrap dress in their closet.

The one I’m wearing is by RealisationPar, an LA based company that every model and it-girl seems to wear. Mind you, if you’re not in the market to spend upwards of $200 on a mini-dress, I’ve linked some similar options in this post. I paired the dress with my favourite studded Givenchy boots and the accessory everyone is wearing this summer; a belt bag. I’ve been looking for a belt bag for months and thought I was leaning towards a velvet one but the versatility of the nylon really appealed to me for the summer. Prada nylon bags last forever too so I’m looking forward to having this when belt bags are back in style in another 20 years.

I’ve been living in this Madewell oversized coat and Zara sock booties. I needed something more masculine and oversized for the West Coast’s longest winter ever and I actually found this one through the LIKEtoKNOW.it app. Actually, everything I’m wearing in this outfit comes from things I found on Instagram.

Instagram is an incredible tool and a great way to stay informed and stay connected to a community of like-minded people but it has become such a chore for me. I don’t get joy or satisfaction from posting anymore and it’s tiring to keep up with the hundreds of accounts I follow. I’m trying to find a happy-medium between my personal life and my social media presence, but in the meantime, here’s some photos of me looking like Neo from the Matrix.

Gingham Dress: Lulu’s, Bag: BP., Shoes: Steve Madden

The easiest way to bring gingham from day to night is with this mini dress from Lulu’s. I find the straight neck line trend so flattering and the details on the back of this dress paired with the gingham pattern made it impossible to resist.

I have hundreds of shoes and no heel has ever been as comfortable as these Steve Madden sandals. Ladies, if you want a heel that goes with everything and you can wear for hours – this is the heel for you.

Gingham is probably the biggest trend of this season and so accessible. Everyone and their grandmother is wearing it so I thought I would put together two looks featuring the most popular pattern of the year.

First up is this day-time look. I got this gingham Zara top during the sale for only $20! Paired with my favourite Topshop jeans that I talked about before here, because when you love something you buy it in every colour, right?

I definitely stray away from patterns usually and I love monochromatic looks but my trick for styling gingham is to avoid over-accessorizing. Keeping the rest of my outfit simple is the key to wearing bold (ok well bold for me) patterns.

Off the Shoulder Dress: Nordstrom, Shoes: Prada, Bag: Celine, Sunglasses: Gentle Monster

Nothing quite like finding a steal on a cute dress! As soon as I saw this off the shoulder dress I was sold. I have stocked up on everything off the shoulder this season, especially in white. I’m all for throwing something on that looks like you put way more effort into it than you actually did. The only downside to this dress is that because it’s 100% cotton it wrinkles so easily. I steamed and ironed the dress before going out and after sitting down for a meal it was instantly wrinkly again.

Been dying to post some new content but my personal photographer (aka blog husband) broke his leg and we couldn’t shoot for a while. Ready to get back into it with this fantastic Canadian summer we’re starting to have!

Honoured to have been one of the first people in the world to try SKYE Footwear’s Rbutus sneakers. I’ll be the first person to admit my sneaker closet is overflowing and I probably don’t NEED another pair of sneakers but who am I to pass up on completely environmentally friendly footwear? Anyone who has grown up on the West Coast is cautious of their eco footprint and if my mother has taught me anything it’s how to be green (and how to make a mean gin & tonic). A huge topic in fashion school was sustainability in the fashion industry so I was thrilled when SKYE Footwear reached out about trying out their sneakers.

Every girl needs a non-neutral coloured bag in the summer so this Celine Trotteur bag was a no-brainer. If you couldn’t tell from my previous post, I love pastel blue. I don’t wear a ton of colour and the only colour I ever really buy is blue. It’s basically a neutral in my wardrobe.

The leather on this Celine Trotteur bag couldn’t be more supple. Since the colour is so light I worried about colour transfer but the grained calfskin makes for easy cleaning. My mini Chloe Faye is so delicate and I need to be super careful when using it so I knew I didn’t want to have another bag I’d have to be so cautious with.

Bomber Jacket: Chantz Clothing, Blouse: Equipment, Denim: Topshop, Booties: Saint Laurent Paris, Bag: Celine, Sunglasses: Gentle Monster

Nothing says weekend uniform like a good pair of flattering denim and a cute jacket to throw on top to tie your outfit together. This quilted bomber from Chantz Clothing is a staple in my wardrobe. It’s lightweight when the suns out and keeps you warm when temperatures drop.

I think I speak for all girl-kind when I say finding a pair of flattering denim that accentuate your bum is equivalent to winning the lottery. Every time I have worn these jeans I’ve been complimented on them and people are always asking where they’re from. Well, look no further, they’re Topshop and they’re under $100!

This past weekend marked me and Jayden‘s 9th anniversary together. I have terrible memory but I’ll never forget being 14 years old and being asked out in the faculty parking lot of our high school during lunch hour by the boy who turned out to be the best friend I’ve ever had and my other half. It’s definitely not like me to be this soft but I can’t help feeling just a little sentimental knowing we’ve been together for more than a third of our lives.

Wore my Sunday best this weekend for Easter. Pastel blue has to be one of my favourite colours. Yes, I have this suede jacket from Zara in a brown colour as well and yes, I will probably buy more colours in the coming seasons but who can blame me? If you don’t have one already go out and get one because it is the perfect third piece to any outfit.

I wore these Gucci Marmont Sandals three times before my puppy Kenzo tore one of the heels to shreds but thank god for shoe cobblers because they look brand new!

favourite shoes under $200

As much as I love designer shoes (and anyone close to me can attest to that), some of my favourite shoes include my classic Chuck Taylors which I have been wearing since I was born to the comfiest block heels I ran around Vegas in. So, I’ve rounded up some of my favourite shoes under $200.

1. Nike Air Presto Sneakers

2. Halogen Slide Sandals (they come in 5 colours!)

3. Vans Old Skools

4. Steve Madden Carsson

5. Adidas Stan Smiths (I have 3 pairs lol)

6. BP. Block Heel Sandals

7. Converse Chuck Taylor Sneaker

8. Soludos Espadrille

9. Adidas Slide Sandal

Finally seeing some warmer weather on the west coast so it was time to break out my new Gentle Monster sunglasses. They look like Celine for a fraction of the price and they are made to fit asian faces so they don’t slide down my nose. The style I’m wearing is currently sold out online but Gentle Monster is also sold at Roden Gray and Nordstrom in Vancouver.

Another favourite purchase of mine this year is my Saint Laurent sneakers. The first time I saw them I knew I had to have them. The pink star details are perfect for Spring and Summer. If I could only wear one designer for the rest of my life I would gladly hand over my credit card to Saint Laurent. I also scored a pair of the Blake booties on sale and can’t wait to show how I style them (aka wear them every single day).

Any chance I have to dress up comfy clothes; I will take. Pairing these jeans, hoodie and camel coat was the ultimate off-duty outfit. The accessories really make wearing a hoodie look much more chic than it is.  The weather is finally starting to heat up but I still need that extra layer to stay warm. I prefer the winter over summer, purely for fashion reasons, but this winter has been exceptionally cold so I’m ready for a warmer climate.

Next month I’ll be 23 so last night I made my family dinner for the first time in my life. Figured it’s about time I learn to adult.

Faux Fur Coat: H&M, T-Shirt: Maison Kitsune, Jeans: AGOLDE, Boots: Isabel Marant, Bag: Chloe

Here’s a recap of what has happened in my absence from WTF:

1. I fell in love with Paris. I plan on returning every couple years for the rest of my life.

2. The blonde is gone! I was tired of seeing the same haircut and colour on everyone around me so I went back to black.

3. I have been shopping a LOT and cannot wait to share all my new staple pieces; like these new Isabel Marant boots (they’re on sale!) or my mini Chloe faye bag.

It doesn’t help that you can now shop on H&M.com because I hate shopping in stores like Zara and H&M. The stores are messy, you can never find anyone who works there and anything you buy has already been tried on before (hello make-up and deodorant stains ‒ ugh, gross). This faux fur coat was my first purchase off H&M.com and I was pleasantly surprised with the fast delivery and careful packaging.
