hike 2: the grouse grind

Yesterday we climbed over 2100 steps to the top of the Grouse Grind, today.. I can’t feel my legs. Another famous Vancouver “hike” this week as we try to ease our way into our weekly hikes. I don’t consider the Grind a hike, just a giant stairwell. Don’t think I ever could have made it without Allison and Crystal, or without the couple who adopted us during the hike and motivated us the whole way to the top. We started out much faster and found ourselves stopping quite often until we made it to the halfway mark then we started to go slower and the air was cooler so it made it easier to breathe. There were people running past us and people talking about how they could do the Grind everyday. It was also surprisingly busy for a Wednesday morning, don’t people have jobs?! I am in awe of people who manage to run the whole way to the top and of people who can do it in under an hour. Maybe by the end of summer that’ll be us but I just can’t see myself willingly doing that again until I’m in the best shape of my life.
